Sutra
द्वयोर्द्वयोः पूर्वाः पूर्वगाः ॥२१॥
Meaning
(द्वयोर्द्वयोः) दो-दो नदियों में से (पूर्वा) पूर्व – पूर्व की नदी (पूर्वगा 🙂 पूर्व दिशा में जाती है। अर्थ- दो-दो नदियों के युगल में से पूर्व-पूर्व की नदियाँ पूर्व समुद्र को जाती हैं।

भावार्थ

(ये चौदह नदियाँ दो के समूह में लेना चाहिये) हर दो-दो के समूह से पहली – पहली नदी पूर्व की ओर बहती है ( और उस दिशा के समुद्र में मिलती है)। Reference:Tatvartha-Sutra-तत्वार्थ-सूत्र-Vijay-K-Jain

English Meaning:

The first of each pair of rivers flows eastwards. The sutra specifies that these rivers are in groups of two and each group flows in one region. It precludes the interpretation that all the rivers flow in one region. The directions are also indicated by the phrase ‘purvah purvahgah’. The first river in each group falls into the eastern ocean. These are eastern rivers. On what basis is the first to be taken? The sūtra clarifies that the first seven rivers mentioned are not to be taken as the first rivers. Answer : सर्व नदियों के एकत्र बहने के प्रसंग की निवृत्ति के लिए और दिशाविशेष का ज्ञान कराने के लिए यह सूत्र कहा गया है।

Answer नहीं, “द्वयो: द्वयोः” पद है। इससे जाना जाता है कि दो-दो नदियों में से पूर्व-पूर्व की नदियाँ पूर्व समुद्र को जाती हैं।
